What is that, you say?

Well, in the fence-mending visit of Yudhoyono, to Malaysia, both governments have agreed to set up EPG that is made up of experts, and prominent figures that represent the economy, culture, and religion of the neighboring states.

The function of this EPG is to “monitor, discuss, and find solutions, or give views to the respective governments” as quoted in Bernama News.

President Yudhoyono said the purpose of EPG overall, is to improve the bilateral relationship of the two nations.

Indonesia proposed the establishment of EPG as one of its strategic goals in improving the ties in various fields, such as migrant workers, illegal logging, culture, border issues, etc.

Malaysia’s Prime Minister embraced the idea of EPG, and agreed that both respective governments will position 7 officials in the organization to represent each field of expertise.

Abdullah also described the meeting with Yudhoyono to be “successful, and very meaningful”.

The meeting lasted over an hour.

The next scheduled meeting is to be held in Indonesia, early 2009.

One Response to “Indonesia and Malaysia Set Up EPG”

  1. I would say that the idea of EPG is quite genial, however, why this idea hasnt been forwarded much earlier, when Ambalat and other latent problems: TKI & illegal logging, have hurt us.
therefore, setting up an EPG, consisting of most respected citizen -not officials- of both countries, is a good idea since C-to-C can be a novel way to solve the root of the cause; corruption
principally, I dont believe in government, both in the Indonesian side and Malaysia. Indonesia, sudah jelas, korup.
from Indonesian side, it should be represented by the ones with credentials, e.g.
    - economics
    - law; he..he.. Yusril is a good idea, although I despise his apologetic statement on Tomi Bank Paribas–see my article in Koran Tempo. having Malaysian education and network, will enable Yusril to be a good bridge between two countries. this position is more suitable than being put forward as Constitutional Court Justice
    - IT: Budi Rahardjo– well respected by both countries IT communities–deface war
    - TKI; Teten Masduki, why? because previously he was incharge for YLBHI’s Labour Division. and also rampat corruption in KBRI Malaysia
